Starbucks is adding a new line of protein-infused cold beverages to its menu in Costa Rica, bringing the chain’s latest regional drink platform to all of its stores nationwide starting June 11. The new Protein Cold Foam is a creamy topping that can be added to several of the company’s cold drinks, including Frappuccino beverages, Cold Brew, Iced Matcha and Iced Latte options.
The foam adds roughly 15 to 18 grams of extra protein, while the full beverage can contain about 19 to 26 grams of protein depending on the drink and flavor combination. Customers in Costa Rica will be able to customize the drinks with flavors such as vanilla, chocolate, mocha, strawberry and matcha. The company is positioning the new option as a way for customers to add protein to their usual coffee or cold drink order without changing their daily routine.
The Costa Rica rollout is part of Starbucks’ regional “Fans of Your Passion” campaign, which links coffee, sports and social gatherings during a year filled with major international sporting events. The campaign focuses on the habits that surround fandom, from meeting before a match to watching games with friends or stopping for coffee afterward.
Mariana Flores Ríos, Product and Marketing Manager for Starbucks Latin America and the Caribbean, said the campaign celebrates the emotions, rituals and conversations connected to sports while introducing new beverage options such as Protein Cold Foam.
The new drinks also arrive as protein-focused products continue to gain popularity among consumers looking for simple ways to add more protein during the day. For Starbucks, the move gives customers another customizable add-on at a time when cold beverages remain a major part of its menu.
Along with the drinks, Starbucks is rolling out seasonal merchandise tied to the campaign. The collection includes reusable cups, a stainless-steel tumbler and a limited-edition version of the Bearista cup, one of the brand’s most recognizable collector items.
The Bearista cup has been available since June 8 to Gold members of the Starbucks Rewards program. It will be available for purchase beginning June 15 for other registered members of the loyalty program.
The new drinks and merchandise will be available for a limited time, with availability varying by store and market. In Costa Rica, Starbucks has a presence in shopping centers, corporate districts and other high-traffic areas, making the rollout accessible to customers across the country.
Starbucks operates more than 40,000 stores worldwide and has continued to use seasonal drinks, loyalty offers and collectible merchandise as part of its strategy to keep customers returning beyond traditional coffee purchases.
For Costa Rican customers, the new Protein Cold Foam drinks add another option to a menu already shaped heavily by iced coffee, Frappuccino drinks and seasonal limited-time offers.
