Costa Rican Exporters Seek Trade Partners in Mexico

A mission of Costa Rican exporters from the food sector visited Mexico last week to meet with importers and distributors, according to a statement from the Foreign Trade Promotion Office (PROCOMER).

The Costa Rican delegation spent five days in Mexico to begin a round of negotiations for Tico exporters to establish commercial relations with Mexican companies.

The Mexican buyers at the more than 75 meetings included supermarkets, wholesale distributors and fast food chains such as Wal-MartMexico, Comercial Mexicana, Gigante, Chedraui, Sanborns Hermanos, Cafeterías Toks and Restaurantes Winks.

Costa Rican businesses attending included Derivados de Maíz Alimenticio, Alimentos del Trópico, Baltimore Spice, Roma Prince, Servicios Múltiples Proa and Florida Bebidas.

Costa Rica exports about $168 million worth of goods to Mexico and imports $582 million from that country per year. The trade ministry hopes to see these numbers climb as last week’s negotiations pay off.
