In March the number of Covid-19 Related Deaths in Costa Rica are 36% Lower

The good news is that for the month of March the number of deaths related to Covid continue to fall and are thankfully 36% lower than last month. Hopefully, the worst is behind us and that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Let’s take a closer look at the numbers that came out this week from the ministry of health to make better sense of all this.

A Closer Look at the Numbers

On March 29, the Health Ministry reported 868 cases including 10 deaths and 558 people remain hospitalized in the public system. Of this total, 72 people are hospitalized in the ICU and 486 are in public rooms.

Week Number 12

  • 5,153 new Covid-19 cases from March 20 – March 26
  • A decrease of 1,231 new Covid Cases compared to the previous week
  • The average number of hospitalized Covid-19 patients in Costa Rica was 584 (the week before it was 679 people)
  • There were 324 new hospital admissions associated with Covid-19, down from 445 the previous week (27.2% decrease)

These totals represent an average of 736 cases per day and a 19.3% week-over-week decrease.

Breakdown by Age Groups

  • 64.1% were in the age group of 65
  • 15.4% in the 50-64 age group
  • 20.5% in the age group of 18 to 49 years of age
  • 0% for minors

Grand Total

This brings the total number of deaths in Costa Rica, as of March 29, 2022, that can be directly related to Covid-19 since the pandemic began to 8288!
