Satellites Help Police Capture Alleged Armed Robbers

Using satellite technology, National Police arrested two alleged armed robbers last week after they stole a car and robbed a house in Sabanilla, east of San José, according to a statement from the Public Security Ministry.

A man identified by the last name Mena called the police after he came home to discover two men with guns inside his house.

They threatened him and locked him and his family in a bathroom and proceeded to take an SUV, jewelry and a safe.

The SUV, a 2007 Mitsubishi Montero Sport, had an anti-theft satellite device that allowed police to locate it in San Sebastián, south of San José.

National Police intercepted the car in nearby Desamparados and arrested two suspects identified by the last names Castro and Mora, who were carrying 38-caliber guns and wearing bullet-proof vests.

Police did not find any of the stolen items in the car and suspect the alleged robbers deposited them elsewhere. Judicial Investigation Police (OIJ) are looking further into the case.
