Some important times to remember during this live coverage:

6 p.m. Polls close across Costa Rica

8 p.m. The first set of preliminary results come in from the country’s election authority, the Supreme Elections Tribunal (TSE). Updates will roll in periodically as votes are counted overnight.

12:30 p.m. Monday First count of voting completes. The country will go into an automatic recount in two circumstances: if the first place finisher is within two percentage points of the second place finisher, or if no candidate wins more than 40 percent. A recount also can be triggered if the second- and third-place candidates are within two percentage points.

The TSE will not declare an official winner based on this count. The TSE has 15 days after the election to certify the election results, and will declare an official winner sometime in that period.
