Costa Rica Picture of the Day: White-throated magpie-jay

The white-throated magpie-jay does not conceal itself well.

Highlighted in contrasting blue and white, with a notably long tail and crest of feathers on its head, the white-throated magpie-jay is easy to spot (and hear) in Costa Rica, particularly in the north Pacific.

They’re rarely alone, and if you see one of them, you’ll likely find a flock of others in a nearby tree.

Featured here is a photo of one of the many white-throated magpie-jays we saw on a recent trip through Costa Rica’s Nicoya Peninsula.
