Apply now: CRUSA offering full-ride scholarships to US colleges

The CRUSA Foundation is offering five full-ride scholarships, valued at $43,000 each, to Costa Rican students interested in studying science, technology, engineering or math in the United States.

The annual program, titled Becas de Técnicos Especializados Dra. Ana Sittenfeld, is accepting applicants through June 7. It is open to students in Costa Rica who are in the final year of Professional Technical College or at public schools that participate in the International Baccalaureate Program.

The five scholarship winners will study for two years at a community college in the United States and will have the opportunity to complement their classroom learning with internships at U.S.-based companies that have operations in Costa Rica.

The scholarship covers tuition, books and other classroom materials, health insurance and living expenses.

“The country has the challenge of meeting the needs of people training in STEM areas,” said Flora Montealegre, who is on the CRUSA Foundation board of directors. “Companies are changing how they do business at an increasing pace, so it is necessary to bring training closer in-line to the new requirements of the productive sector and Industry 4.0.

“That is part of what we look for with this scholarship program.”

Interested students can visit the CRUSA Foundation’s website (www.crusa.cr) for a full list of requirements and to complete the scholarship application form.
