Award-Winning Artist, Critic and Costa Rican Culture Promoter Virginia Pérez-Ratton Dies

Costa Rican art curator, researcher and cultural promoter Virginia Pérez-Ratton died Wednesday afternoon at her home.

Pérez was awarded the Magón Prize last year, as a lifetime achievement award.

The recognition was awarded for her contributions to the promotion of Costa Rican and Central American contemporary art and her important work as a curator in international art events. Pérez also was one of the founders of the Papaya Music label, which promotes Costa Rican and Central American music. Pérez passed away after a three-year battle with cancer. She was born in 1950.
 
The headquarters of Fundación ars Teor/Ética, the arts institution she founded, will welcome visitors who wish to pay their respects.
