Costa Rican art curator, researcher and cultural promoter Virginia Pérez-Ratton died Wednesday afternoon at her home.
Pérez was awarded the Magón Prize last year, as a lifetime achievement award.
The recognition was awarded for her contributions to the promotion of Costa Rican and Central American contemporary art and her important work as a curator in international art events. Pérez also was one of the founders of the Papaya Music label, which promotes Costa Rican and Central American music. Pérez passed away after a three-year battle with cancer. She was born in 1950.
