Dry Weather with Isolated Storms Mark Recent Weeks

Humidity from the Caribbean coast has been forced into the central valley in recent days, causing very isolated storms, although much of San José and the Pacific Coast have been enjoying unseasonably dry and sunny weather.

According to Costa Rica’s National Meteorological Institute (IMN), the isolated afternoon downpours will continue in the upcoming days while mornings will be mostly sunny. Meteorologists were not sure exactly where the downpours will strike, but said they will likely occur in the Central Valley and on the Pacific coast.

Since Saturday, isolated electric storms and downpours have impacted Cartago, east of San José, Liberia and Cañas in Guanacaste, in the northwestern part of the country, as well as other parts of the Pacific coast, said Evelyn Quirós, a meteorologist at the IMN.

The amount of rain that has fallen this year has surpassed the annual average in most parts of the country.

Although the amount of rainfall for the month of October has lagged behind the monthly average in many areas of Costa Rica, Quirós said that renewed rains in the coming days will make up for the shortfall.
