Former President Arias breaks ribs, in stable condition

Former Costa Rican president Oscar Arias broke three ribs on Saturday evening at his home in Rohrmoser, a western San José neighborhood.

Arias was taken to the hospital on Saturday and returned to his home the same night, according to a spokesman speaking to ADN Radio. The spokesman added Arias is in stable condition.

Pablo Guerén, a spokesman for Arias, did not reveal details of the incident, but told ADN Radio in Costa Rica that the former head of state had a “small accident.”

Doctors estimate a minimum of three weeks before Arias recuperates and Guerén said that, during that time, Arias will remain mostly at his home and will still host “dinners and small meetings.”
