Thanks to faithful Tico Times reader and Southwest Airlines pilot John Wells, who has spent a lot of time in the air above San José in recent years training crews on flights coming in and out of Juan Santamaría International Airport. He was on a flight out of San José Wednesday afternoon, “climbing out of 17,000 feet enroute to Houston, Texas,” when he snapped this photo of Poás and Turrialba Volcanoes (Turrialba at the rear).
“Not very often you can catch both steaming at the same time,” he wrote.
Definitely not – although given the way both volcanoes have been behaving, this may just be an increasingly common occurrence for passengers in and out of Costa Rica’s capital.
Read more about recent eruptions and other volcanic activity at Poás, northwest of the capital, and Turrialba, to the northeast. And please keep those photos coming!
