Another Hooters to open in Costa Rica

A third Hooters location will open next week in Heredia, west of San José. The U.S. restaurant chain famous for  scantly-clad waitresses and chicken wings will begin operations on Nov. 19.

According to a press release, a $2 million investment was used to construct the Hooters in Heredia, which will be located in the Plaza Bratsi shopping center. The venue will employ more than 50 people, including some 35 of the 35 famed Hooters girls.

“Our clients have been asking for a Hooters in Heredia for a long time,” said Verónica Caballero, the Hooters manager of operations in Costa Rica. “We believe that this city is developing at an impressive pace and we consider it a good moment to open the new restaurant.”

The announcement of the new Hooters location in Heredia comes at a time when several U.S.-based chains are expanding operations in Costa Rica.

Taco Bell announced this week that they will open locations in Tibás, Alajuela and San Francisco de Heredia before the end of the year. Total investment for the three new sites exceeds $1 million and is expected to create between 60-100 employees. The sandwich chain Subway also announced this week that they will open three more restaurants.

The first Hooters was opened at the Plaza Itzkaztú in Escazú in 2005, followed by a location in San Pedro near the University of Costa Rica in June 2010.
