Tamarindo Talk

For the holidays, the area has a lot of special parties and restaurants are offering special menus for Christmas.  Mar Vista in Flamingo is presenting an Italian Christmas Eve dinner beginning at 4 p.m., while Seasons and Nibbana have meals planned for both Dec. 24 and 25.

Recently, a meeting took place at Mar Vista in Flamingo that drew about 50 people to talk about security and crime in the area from Playa Potrero to Tamarindo. In attendance were representatives from the Judicial Investigative Police (OIJ), the National Police, the Tourist Police, and District Attorney’s office. The proposal was to secure a private security force of about 30 officers with motorcycles, covering the local area, and funded by business operators and residents who would pay a small fee, possibly on the Coopeguanacaste monthly bill.

Longtime resident Jeff Herrman has a great T-shirt printing company called Agua Pipa Tees. He specializes in higher end prints and shirts. Call 8699-7289.

Thank goodness the food keeps coming in Tamarindo: In the old La Olas space, Carlos and Carlos Italian food;  Bistro Langosta is supposed to open under new ownership; El Chilito in the  building before SuperCompro is making Mexican delicacies. Up by the gymnasium there are two restaurant about to open. One is Chopsticks, which features traditional Taiwanese fare, and in the Mad Jacks space will be the Pura Vida Bar & Grill.

Every year, Los Altos de Eros, a boutique hotel and spa, organizes a Christmas party for the children from surrounding villages including Caña Fístula and Cebadilla. This year, LADE invited 55 kids to enjoy a fun-filled day of games, food and laughter. The day included a clown, music, face painting and games like potato sack races. The chef prepared yummy food. At the end of the celebration, each child received a personalized Christmas gift.
