Costa Rica beverage giant Florida Ice and Farm Co. takes over Musmanni bakeries

Take a fresh baked muffin with that cold Imperial beer – they’re made by the same folks now.

Florida Ice and Farm Co. announced in a statement Tuesday its acquisition of the Musmanni Corporation, the ubiquitous Costa Rican bread and confection company with bakeries dotting the country. Florida Ice and Farm Co. also produces national beers like Imperial and Pilsen (under the name Cerveceria Costa Rica) and distributes international brands such as Pepsi and Gatorade.

“As a consumer company, we want to strengthen our portfolio of food products,” said Gisela Sánchez, director of coporate relations of Florida Farm and Ice Co. “And what better way than by joining with a successful company with more than 100 years old such as Musmanni.”

Sánchez said Musmanni will continue to be run the way it has been for many years.
