Direct Public Mal País Bus Route Inaugurated

A new direct public bus route fromMalpaís, a popular surf destination on thesouthern Nicoya Peninsula, to San José,was inaugurated Nov. 7.From Malpaís, the bus makes stops inthe neighboring beach town ofMontezuma and the centers of the townsof Tambor, Cóbano and Paquera, also onthe Nicoya Peninsula.Buses depart from Malpaís daily at4:30 a.m., stopping in Montezuma at 4:45a.m., Cóbano at 5 a.m., Tambor at 5:30a.m. and Paquera at 6:10 a.m. After crossingover the gulf on the 6:30 a.m. ferry,the bus arrives at the Coca-Cola BusStation in San José at approximately10:30 a.m., bus owner Elvy Rojas toldThe Tico Times.From San José, buses depart at 3:30p.m. Starting this month, they will alsoleave the city at 7:30 a.m., the daily LaNación reported.To provide the service, RodríguezBrothers Transportation purchased three2006 Marcopolo air-conditioned buseswith reclining seats and televisions, Rojassaid.Bus owner Rafael Angel Rodrígueztold La Nación that two more buses arescheduled to arrive in December, and twomore in March 2006, worth a total investmentof $800,000, half of which BancoCuzcatlán financed.One-way bus tickets cost ¢5,000(approximately $10) a price that is underreview and might change soon, accordingto the daily.For more information, call 642-0219or 642-0740.
