Tico Released from U.S. Prison after 27 Years

COSTA Rican Ronny Zamorareturned to his homeland from the UnitedStates in June after serving 27 years in aFlorida prison.In 1977, Zamora – 15 years old at thetime – was found guilty of killing an 83-year-old woman in the first trial to betelevised in the United States. Despitehis young age, hewas tried as anadult and sentencedto life inprison.Upon receivingparole,Zamora, 43 at thetime, returned tohis family homein Turrialba.He told TheTico Times inJune he plans towork with CostaRica’s Ministryof Justice on atransition program for long-term offendersand help juvenile delinquents findalternatives.
