The head of US diplomacy, Mike Pompeo, will meet on Monday in Colombia with the Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaidó, on his first stop of a three-day trip to Latin America and the Caribbean.
A dozen countries working on ways to end Venezuela's crisis on Thursday gave their backing to opposition leader Juan Guaido as parliamentary speaker, rejecting the claims of a rival.
The United States congratulated Guaido on being re-elected as speaker and said it condemned the failed efforts of the former Maduro regime to negate the will of the democratically elected National Assembly.
