Presidents of Honduras and Nicaragua to discuss security issues

Honduran President Porfirio Lobo traveled to Nicaragua on Thursday to discuss regional security issues and measures to fight organized crime with his Nicaraguan counterpart, Daniel Ortega.

The two presidents will meet privately to discuss “bilateral issues such as trade and security,” according to statement from the Honduran government.

Lobo and Ortega will focus primarily on regional security and fighting drug trafficking,as well as organized crime problems affecting all Central American countries.

Also, a Honduran delegation will hold a meeting with Nicaraguan officials on topics such as regional trade, customs and social development programs.

Honduras has held the temporary presidency of the Central American Integration System (SICA) since December.
