All of Costa Rica’s 89 municipalities on Monday signed an agreement that commits them to manage construction permits through an existing online platform.
Launched in June 2011, the “Construction Project Manager” (APC) is a digital platform that government authorities implemented with the Federated Association of Engineers and Architects (CFIA) to process construction plans and permits.
The system allows the National Institute for Housing and Urban Development, the Health Ministry, Firefighters’ Corps, the National Water and Sewer Institute and the CFIA to review a single set of documents over the Internet. However, final steps at municipalities must be done in person.
In September, 34 municipalities agreed to use the APC, so that the entire process of obtaining building permits is carried out online. With the signing this week, the coverage will be extended to all municipalities in coming months.
