President Chinchilla says she will focus on improving competitiveness, infrastructure

During Independence Day celebrations on Saturday, President Laura Chinchilla promised she would dedicate the second half of her term to making Costa Rica a “more secure, prosperous and dignified country for all its people.”

She also called on her ministers and other officials to take concrete actions to better serve the country and to put forth extra efforts “to demonstrate their commitment to their posts.”

The president stated that even though “she has encountered several obstacles along the way, she is satisfied to see the country is heading in the right direction with confidence and security.”

Chinchilla also emphasized that during the next 19 months she will focus on strengthening and improving areas related to competitiveness, infrastructure, security and welfare.

The president gave her speech during the official celebrations of the 191st anniversary of independence in downtown San José.
