Translation: “Oscar Arias reiterates his support for Araya in the second round, and denies that Luis Guillermo Solís asked for his support.”
Just in case you didn’t believe Luis Guillermo Solís — Oscar Arias makes it clear he will vote for fellow National Liberation Party (PLN) member Johnny Araya. The two-time Costa Rican president (1986-1990, 2006-2010) said neither Araya or Solís asked for his support, since they both already knew for whom he would vote. So that’s the end of that controversy.
UPDATE: Several media are reporting that Solís will meet with ex-President Abel Pacheco at 10 a.m. Saturday. So at least one former president seems likely to vote for the opposition party candidate.
Pacheco, a member of the Social Christian Unity Party, was the last non-PLN candidate to be elected president in Costa Rica. He led the country from 2002-2006.
