Honduran Infant Found In Trash Bag at Dump

TEGUCIGAPLA – A week-old baby girl was found inside a plastic trash bag in a dump in the northern Honduran city of San Pedro Sula, authorities said Aug. 2.

A police spokesman said that the infant, whose body was covered with worms and ant bites, was found the day before in the dump in the El Carmen neighborhood.

The man who rescued the baby was alerted by the little girl’s crying when he was walking by the dump.

“When I arrived at the spot, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. The girl was completely covered with worms and surrounded by blue flies,” he said.

After finding the baby, the man alerted the authorities, who transferred her to the MaríoCatarinoRívasHospital.

Hospital officials this week said that the infant was in stable condition.

The police spokesman said that the authorities have opened an investigation to identify the parents of the girl.
