(Some) Ticos Connected To Mobile Internet Service

In April, cell phone users in Costa Rica were offered the modern new service of an Internet connection via their mobile phone.

Ironically, only those who already had GSM cell phones could sign up for the service, since no new cell phone lines were available from the Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE), which runs the state telecommunications monopoly.

ICE announced it expected to make available 300,000 more GSM cell phone lines by the end of 2007, and by early December nearly that many people were on the waiting list.
