EU to Discuss Election Fraud Allegations With Gov’t

MANAGUA – Following the suspension of millions of dollars in budget aid for Nicaragua after last year’s election debacle, the EU was expected to sit down with the government this week to address – among other issues – allegations of fraud in last November’s municipal elections, an issue the Sandinistas until now have refused to talk about.

Mendel Goldstein, representative of European Commission to Central America, said the EU is open to dialogue, but is waiting for a positive signal from the government.

“It takes two to tango,” he said.
