Flamenco Takes the Stage at National Theater This Weekend

Spaniard Antonio El Pipa’s “De Tablao” flamenco show will make its sole Latin American appearance in San José’s National Theater this weekend, with performances tonight and tomorrow night at 8 p.m.

Born in the Andalusian town of Jerez, Spain, to a gypsy family with a long and vaunted flamenco history, El Pipa has performed in venues around the world, from Madrid’s Teatro Albéniz and Paris’ Théatre des Champs-Elysées to New York’s City Center.

The dancer returns to Costa Rica after visiting the country last year for the Latin American Flamenco Festival, during which he gave master classes at the University of Costa Rica in San Pedro, east of San José.

Tickets to the show range in price from ¢6,000-30,000 ($12-60) and are available at the National Theater box office. Credomatic cardholders receive a 10% discount.
