It’s official: Festival Imperial to return to Costa Rica in 2012

One of Costa Rica’s most revered musical fiestas will return in 2012 after a four-year absence. Gisela Sánchez, director of corporate relations at Florida Ice and Farm (FIFCO), announced Thursday morning that the famed Festival Imperial will again be held in Costa Rica, March 24-25 at the Autódromo La Guácima in Alajuela, northwest of San José.

“At this time, we want to inform Costa Ricans that yes, there will be a Festival Imperial [in 2012],” Sánchez said in a press release. “This will be an event full of music, emotions and new experiences.”

FIFCO, Costa Rica’s largest food and beverage company, has brought some of music’s biggest stars to Costa Rica for the festival in years past. In 2008, the Smashing Pumpkins, Duran Duran, Seal and Enrique Iglesias played the festival, and Sting and Jamiroquai headlined the event in 2006. In recent weeks, social media sites have mentioned U.S. alternative rock band the Foo Fighters as possible headliners for next year’s event.

Sánchez said the lineup for the 2012 festival will be announced during the first weeks of January. The website officially announcing the return of the festival, www.esoficial.com, launched Thursday, exactly 100 days prior to the event kick-off.
