Festival Imperial Confirms Enrique Iglesias

Spanish-American pop star Enrique Iglesias is the latest big name to sign up for the Festival Imperial, set for April 19-20 at La Guácima de Alajuela, northwest of San José.

The son of legendary Spanish singer Julio Iglesias has sold more than 40 million albums worldwide and is currently at number one on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart with the single “Dónde Están Corazón,” from his latest album, “Insomniac.” His performance at the festival will coincide with the release of a new greatest hits CD to go on sale March 25.

Iglesias will headline the second day of the festival along with British 1980s pop icons Duran Duran. Tico group Porpartes are also on the bill that day.

U.S. alternative rock groups The Smashing Pumpkins and Incubus are confirmed to play on the first day of the festival, along with homegrown band LePop.

“We are absolutely delighted to have a lineup of top international bands, really iconic groups,” said Carlos Cañas, brand  manager of Cervecería Costa Rica, producer of Imperial beer and sponsor of the festival.

Organizers expect to announce two additional international acts soon.

Approximately 3,000 tickets sold within the first three hours of sales last Thursday for the much anticipated festival. Priced from ¢10,000 to ¢30,000 ($20 to $60), tickets are on sale at selected Más x Menos, Hipermás and Maxibodega supermarkets, at Vértigo stores and at Aval-Banco Uno branches. They are also available online through www.specialticket.net and www.festivalimperial.co.cr, or by phone at 206-7896.
