July 4 Picnic Is Back, This Year with Entrance Fee

The best holiday of the year for U.S. citizens is the Fourth of July. Why? Because you don’t have to travel in crowded airports, you don’t have to buy gifts, you don’t have to be happy or be serious or BE or DO anything. Hey! That’s what independence is all about.

To celebrate that independence, the funfilled, game-filled Fourth of July Picnic, hosted by the American Colony Committee and sponsored by contributions from U.S. residents and companies throughout Costa Rica, will be back this year after a hiatus in 2007.

The Cevecería Costa Rica has once again agreed to have the picnic in its tree-filled park in Alajuela, on the highway to JuanSantamaríaInternationalAirport.

In addition to asking for donations to offset the increased cost of games, rides and prizes, the committee has decided this year to introduce a small entrance fee of ¢2,000 ($4), though it’s still free for kids under 5.

New comforts include a golf cart to help the disabled get around easier, along with the usual buses that run back and forth from the parking lot.

The committee is seeking sponsors to help offset costs. Sponsors get special invitations and preferential parking. For more information, call 2208-4801 or e-mail american_colony@yahoo.com.

July 4 falls on a Friday this year – a great day for a holiday.Watch The Tico Times for updates and directions.
