Delta Airlines to offer nonstop flight between San José and Los Angeles

U.S. airline Delta will begin operating a new nonstop daily flight between Los Angeles and San José on July 1, the company announced on its website.

A Boeing 757-200 with capacity for 180 passengers will operate the route, with 24 seats in first class and 156 in economy class.

The new route is already available for bookings at the company’s website, delta.com, or at travel agencies. The flight adds to two daily routes currently offered by Delta from San José to Atlanta.

Delta’s announcement comes shortly after Avianca-Taca airline reported last Friday the elimination of five direct flights to Costa Rica and the dismissal of 261 local employees.

On Tuesday, the National Tourism Chamber described Avianca’s decision as “inappropriate and disrespectful to the country” and said it would create a deficit of some 8,000 direct visitors who likely would stop coming to the country, as well as a monthly reduction of some 180-220 flights.

Delta Airlines currently serves more than 160 million passengers a year.
