Green Day Concert Confirmed for October

Having survived the rise and fall of grunge rock through the late ’80s and early ’90s, Green Day, one of the last mainstream bands of that era and genre, has made it a full decade into the 21st century.

In October, the converted pop punk rockers will make it as far as Costa Rica.

Concert promoter Evenpro confirmed last week that Green Day will perform at Ricardo Saprissa Stadium in Tibás, a district north of San José, on Friday, Oct. 29. And to allay any doubts, the date is confirmed on the band’s official website, www.greenday.com.

Green Day is largely credited with reviving and popularizing punk music during the mid-1990s.

The California trio’s breakout album, “Dookie,” released in 1994, reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200 list and produced half a dozen hit singles.

Green Day has won four Grammy awards and also has received honors from MTV and Billboard. All three original members – Billy Joe Armstrong (vocals and guitar), Tré Cool (drums, percussion) and Mike Dirnt (bass) – still make up the band.

Ticket prices range from ¢12,000 to ¢45,000 (about $24 to $89) and are available online at www.specialticket.net, by phone at 2206-7770 or at authorized Servimás outlets, Gollo appliance stores and Bansbach music stores.
