Police Arrest Gringo On Drug Warrant

A U.S. citizen was taken into custody last week on suspicion of drug trafficking. Agents of Interpol and the Intelligence and Security Department arrested dog breeder Augustus Pat Saunders, 48, in a bar in Cartago, east of San José, on May 7. He is wanted for “crimes related to dangerous drugs,” a press release states.

Authorities said the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration has been looking for Saunders since 2007. But Interpol did not provide details of the warrant, including what state he is wanted in.

The Interpol press release states Saunders first entered Costa Rica in 2000.

He is currently in the custody of the country’s immigration police, awaiting extradition.
