Costa Rica Wins but Exits Copa América

Costa Rica triumphed over Paraguay 2-1 in their final Group D match of the 2024 Copa América, but the victory wasn’t enough to advance to the quarterfinals. Early goals from Francisco Calvo and Josimar Alcócer thrilled the predominantly Costa Rican crowd at Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas. Despite Ramón Sosa’s goal for Paraguay in the 54th minute, Costa Rica needed a larger margin of victory and a decisive win from Colombia over Brazil, which ended in a 1-1 draw. Costa Rica, with the tournament’s youngest squad, showed resilience and promise under coach Gustavo Alfaro, who praised his team’s humility and competitive spirit

Costa Rican Coffees Win Big

Roger Ureña Hidalgo, owner of Finca Santa Teresa, and Ricardo Calderón and sons, owners of the Café Don Cayito brand, achieved first place in the prestigious 2024 Cup of Excellence Coffee contest, solidifying their reputation for producing the best coffee in Costa Rica and ranking among the finest globally.

This accolade brings significant benefits to Santa Maria de Dota, boosting tourism and generating employment. Café Don Cayito won in the honeys and naturals category, continuing a legacy that began in 1974, while Finca Santa Teresa excelled in the washed coffees category. This recognition underscores the community’s dedication to quality, innovation, and sustainability, and opens doors to international markets through an exclusive electronic auction for top-tier coffees
