3 Iraqis, 1 Pole Arrested At Juan Santamaría

Authorities arrested four foreigners Monday at JuanSantamaríaInternationalAirport, including three Iraqis traveling on fake passports.

According to a press release from the prosecutor’s office, immigration police are holding the three Iraqis, who were traveling on fake Greek, British and “Yugoslavian” passports, at least until they can locate an Arabic interpreter to help interview them. Yugoslavia began to disintegrate politically in 1991 and by 2003 ceased to exist.

They are also holding a Polish national, last name Malek, who is allegedly wanted for abduction of a minor in his home country. He’s already been ordered to three months of preventive prison.

All four individuals were first detained by Guatemalan police after they flew to Guatemala City from Costa Rica.

Guatemalan authorities returned them to Costa Rica, citing irregularities with their passports. Costa Rican authorities then determined their passports are fake.
