The Mixed Institute for Social Aid (IMAS) announced ¢100 million (about $182,000) in aid for Hurricane Hanna flood victims. On Sept. 4, heavy rains associated with the hurricane caused flooding and property damage that affected an estimated 1,100 families in Guanacaste, the northwestern province of Costa Rica.
These are situations of immediate need, and we are attending to affected families, said José Antonio Li Piñar, executive president of IMAS, in a press release.
IMAS is donating between ¢70,000 and ¢300,000 to replace lost possessions or to temporarily relocate families left homeless after the flooding.
IMAS is an autonomous institution that has been working since 1971 to resolve extreme poverty in Costa Rica.
