The Pan-American School in San Antonio de Belén, northwest of San José, is celebrating its 35th anniversary with the inauguration of a new building, the burying of a time capsule and other special events.
Sporting events, as well as art and cultural exhibitions, will be held tomorrow, and the 35-year mark will also coincide with the opening of a building that houses a modern cafeteria and classrooms, designed – like the rest of the campus – by famed Costa Rican architect Bruno Stagno, Sr.
The private, bilingual school is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, in the United States, and England’s Council of International Schools. On March 16, Education Minister Manuel Antonio Bolaños awarded the school with a Blue Flag distinction in honor of its efforts to nurture students’ environmental consciousness.
Later this year, students will bury a time capsule on campus containing “the hopes and dreams of the children and young people of our institution related to their vision of the world and Costa Rica in 2021, when their messages will be opened,” said a statement from the school.
