Earthquake Shakes Southern Border Towns

An earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale shook the southern border towns of Ciudad Neily and Coto 47 Sept. 29 at 12:02 a.m., according to a statement from the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICORI), based at Universidad Nacional (UNA) in Heredia, north of San José.

The earthquake, which originated 35 kilometers below the earth’s surface near the southern border town of Paso Canoas, was also felt in Aserrí, a mountain town south of San José.
