Miami Open Tennis Tournament 2022 Has Started

If your an expat in Costa Rica, living or visiting South Florida or maybe even a Tico tennis fanatic than the Miami Open Tennis tournament is for you. Between March 21st and April 3rd, some of the world’s best tennis players will be descending upon the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami to compete in the Miami Open.

The Miami Open is quickly becoming one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world of tennis and is part of the ATP circuit. A lot of players use the Miami Open as a warm up toward some of the other big tournaments later on in the year such as the French Open and Wimbeldon.

What Is The Miami Open?

While the Miami Open isn’t a Grand Slam, it is one of the most well-attended of tennis tournaments. Every year has seen a huge increase in the number of attendees, with the Miami Open 2022 set to be one of the most well-attended versions of the event yet.

In 2022, both the males and females compete for a grand prize of $1,000,000, with a rather cool $500,000 for the runner-up.

You can bet your bottom dollar that the players are going to be working exceedingly hard at this tournament. There are a lot of ranking points to pick up, which could really help with seeding during the Grand Slams later on in the year. It also helps to get a tournament success under the belt, even if they are knocked out earlier than the final.

Where To Watch Miami Open 2022

The Miami Open 2022 shouldn’t be too difficult to watch.

In Latin America, the entire tournament will be broadcast on ESPN. So, if you have access to ESPN, you will be able to watch every single game.

In the United States, the Tennis Channel will be broadcasting the tournament. It will not be broadcast on ESPN in the United States.

Of course, there may also be streaming services that will provide access to the Miami Open 2022. Although, the best bet is to always view the games through the official tennis partner in your country.

How Much Are Tickets To The Miami Open 2022

If you are in South Florida or are lucky enough to be visiting Miami during this time tickets are still available, however the cost of tickets to the Miami Open in 2022 can vary quite wildly. In the lead-up to the tournament, you can expect the tickets to get even more expensive. As we said, this is an incredibly popular tournament, and the tickets tend to be snapped up rather quickly. This makes the event a hotbed for ticket resales.

There are two factors that determine how much a ticket to the Miami Open in 2022 will cost:

  • How early in the tournament the game is being played
  • Which players are competing.

Generally speaking, the cheapest games will be found earlier on in the tournament. You can expect them to be around $50 apiece, although if there are some top players playing, then expect them to cost a lot more than this. The $50 mark is for the lower seeded players.

As the tournament goes on, the tickets gradually get more expensive. Expect ticket prices for the final to be a minimum of $300, although they can get a lot higher than that rather quickly.

You can get tickets that provide you with access to multiple matches in a play session. These tend to be available during the earlier part of the tournament.

Who Won The Last Miami Open?

These were the winners for the Miami Open 2021:

  • Male Singles: Hubert Hurkacz
  • Women Singles: Ashleigh Barty

While Ashleigh Barty certainly wasn’t a shock, Hubert Hurzkacz was. While he is a top Polish player, he had never finished as high as this in a tournament before, often being knocked out in the quarters and semis of other tournaments.

Predictions For Miami Open 2022

At the time of writing, Ashleigh Barty has just announced her retirement from tennis. This means that the player that was virtually a dead-cert to win is out. This means the women’s field is completely open. At the moment, all signs are pointing towards Iga Swiatek doing particularly well.

A few of the top male players won’t be competing in the Miami Open 2022 for various reasons. So, again, the field is going to be left completely open. At the moment, Daniil Medvedev seems to be the favorite to walk away with the male title. However, as we have seen with previous Miami Open tournaments, it isn’t always going to be the favorite that walks away with the trophy.
