Authorities are investigating the death of U.S. citizen Arne Hedlof, 59, whose body was found stuffed into a water tank at his house near JacóBeach on the central Pacific coast.
A maintenance worker found Hedlof Dec. 19, 2006, the daily Al Día reported. Investigators told the daily he had been stabbed to death and it appeared as if the body had been in the tank for approximately two weeks.
Police are calling a 16-year-old boy Hedlof took in a “person of interest” and searching for his whereabouts, a friend of Hedlof ’s told the Associated Press. The Judicial Investigation Police (OIJ) agent in charge of the case could not be reached for comment this week.
Originally from the town of Crown Point, Indiana, Hedlof was a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he flew helicopters, and moved to Costa Rica in September 2006 because of the fair weather and lower cost of living, friends told the Associated Press.
The U.S. retiree is survived by his twin brother, Einar Hedlof, his brother Maynard Hedlof, and his sister Janet Frazee, the Associated Press reported.
