Deadline Looming For Marchamo Payment

It’s that time of year again: Time to pay the vehicle circulation permit, otherwise known as the marchamo.

Payments are due Dec. 31.

The fee, which varies according to the year, make and use of the vehicle, is a bundle that includes basic insurance, property tax, sales tax and several other smaller taxes, as well as any parking or traffic tickets a driver might have incurred. For example, the fee for a 1993 Toyota Corolla comes to ¢47,736, or about $50, according to the marchamo checker on the Institute’sWeb sit, www.ins-cr.com.

Paying late means a daily fine of a certain percentage of those taxes, plus a monthly fine of 3% on the value of the insurance charges.

All vehicles must first be given a clean bill of health by Riteve SyC after an inspection.

Once that’s taken care of, marchamos can be paid at any bank or one of many other locations, including most supermarkets.
