Navas saves La Sele in 1-1 tie against Haiti

For the second time in as many games, Haiti looked the better team.

But unlike when the Caribbean nation defeated Costa Rica’s men’s national soccer team in July during the Gold Cup, this time, La Sele had Keylor Navas.

Navas made enough saves to keep Costa Rica afloat as it tied Haiti, 1-1, on Thursday night in Nassau in CONCACAF Nations League play.

After a first half in which Haiti had the better opportunities, Costa Rica struck in the second half thanks to José Guillermo Ortiz.

Haiti continued to threaten and forced several saves from Navas — the best of which was this spectacular effort in the 68th minute.

Frantzdy Pierrot finally broke through for Haiti in the 82nd minute.

La Sele’s Ariel Lassiter had two opportunities seconds apart in the closing minutes, but he was turned away both times — first by the post, and then by goalkeeper Johny Placide.

Costa Rica will face Curaçao on Sunday at Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela.
