Costa Rica Howler Monkey Georgie Getting Stronger

I was found all alone on the ground in Tamarindo, a beautiful beach town in Costa Rica. My world had suddenly turned upside down when I fell out of a tree, leaving me in great pain and utterly helpless. The fall had left me with a nasty bump on my head, and somehow, I had lost part of my tail in the ordeal. I was scared, hungry, and didn’t know what would happen to me.

But fate had a different plan for me. A kind-hearted lady stumbled upon me during her walk. Seeing my pitiful state, she knew she had to help. Without hesitation, she gently picked me up and brought me to Sibu Wildlife Sanctuary. Here, I found a new temporary home filled with compassion, care, and hope.

At Sibu, I’m receiving all the love and attention a baby monkey like me needs. The dedicated staff here estimate I was about 3 months old when I was rescued. I was severely underweight, tipping the scales at a mere 516 grams. But thanks to the excellent care and nourishment I’m getting, I’m now a whopping 604 grams! It might not sound like much to you, but for a little monkey like me, it’s a big achievement.

My days at Sibu are filled with good food, warmth, and lots of TLC. I’ve discovered my favorite treats – crisp, refreshing lettuce and juicy watermelon. Nothing beats munching on these delights while basking in the Costa Rican sun.

One of the best parts about being at Sibu is the company. I get to play with other baby monkeys, which is not only fun but also crucial for my development. I’ve even made a best friend – her name is Cleo. She’s smaller than me, which sometimes works to my advantage. I hate to admit it, but I occasionally use my size to snatch her lettuce when she’s not looking. Don’t worry, though; we always make up after our little squabbles.

While I’m happy and content at Sibu, the ultimate goal is for me to return to my natural habitat. The dedicated team here is working tirelessly to ensure I grow big and strong enough to survive in the wild. They’re teaching me essential skills I’ll need when I’m back in the jungle.

For now, though, I’m enjoying every moment of my time at Sibu Wildlife Sanctuary. It’s not just a place of healing for me; it’s become my home, filled with love, friendship, and the promise of a bright future in the lush Costa Rican jungle.

Location: Sibu Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Santa Marta, located a few kilometers north west of Nosara on the Nicoya Peninsula.

Sibu Wildlife Sanctuary

SIBU’s mission is to rescue injured, orphaned, and displaced wild animals and provide them immediate medical care, rehabilitation, and eventual release into the wild. When the animals are determined to be strong, healthy and old enough to be re-integrated into the jungle they begin a step-down release program. Animals unlikely to survive in the wild receive a permanent enriching habitat for their life-term care.
