This week in the Peace Corps: Training to be a Peace Corps Volunteer

Last month Peace Corps Costa Rica received over 40 new trainees in the Youth Development (YD) and English (TEFL) sectors.

The aspiring volunteers spend their first three months in the country in technical and language classes preparing them for service. During this time they live with host families to practice their language skills outside of class and learn about the local culture.

In October they will be “Sworn In” as official Peace Corps Volunteers and start their service in their designated communities all across the country. Peace Corps Costa Rica receives a group of new volunteers every six months; Community Economic Development volunteers in February, and YD/TEFL volunteers in July.

The Peace Corps photo series in The Tico Times Costa Rica Changemakers section is sponsored by the Costa Rica USA Foundation for Cooperation (CRUSA), a proud financial supporter of Peace Corps Volunteer projects nationwide.
