Priest Accused of Raping 10-Year-Old Boy

National Police officers arrested a 33-year-old priest in Pococí, in the Caribbean province of Limón, on Tuesday under suspicion of having raped a 10-year-old boy.

According to the boy’s family, the mother approached the priest, whose last name is Vargas, to discuss a problem she had with her boyfriend.

Vargas told the woman that he would babysit her son while she and her boyfriend talked things out, and she agreed.

When the child returned to his mother from under the pastor’s watchful eye, the boy told her that Vargas had stripped and sexually abused him.

Authorities believe that Vargas raped the child.

The case is being investigated by the prosecutor’s office in Pococí. Vargas has been placed in preventive custody.
