U.S. man killed in ATV accident in Jacó

An American, identified as Jonathan Alexander Sharp, 41, died Tuesday night at about 11 p.m., in Jacó, Puntarenas.

Sharp was driving an ATV that rolled to one side of the road in Piedra Bruja in Jacó, according to the daily La Nación. At the site of the accident, no skid marks were visible. The ATV did not show any mechanical damage.

There were no witnesses to the accident. An anonymous caller alerted authorities about the crash. The street where the accident occurred is uninhabited and without streetlights.

A friend from abroad, who spoke on condition of anonymity to the Costa Rican daily, said that Sharp came to the country last week to spend Christmas here with him. The friend said Sharp had left last night on the ATV to shop at a supermarket at about 8 p.m. Sharp never returned to the house, which was located 10 kilometers from the scene of the accident.
