Why did sirens keep ringing in San José on Tuesday?

Sirens sounded throughout Tuesday afternoon as representatives from each province voted on a proposed tax increase that would finance the construction of 32 fire stations by 2020.

Voting will continue through Thursday for the project, which has received more than 1700 letters of support, Much of the support came from the western half of the country, where it can take up to two hours for responders to reach a fire in remote areas.
