Judicial Investigation Police (OIJ) officers in Jacó arrested an expat Monday afternoon suspected of participating in the murder of Argentine Alejandra Erpen on Sept. 18. The 37-year-old woman died after being shot in the neck as she was entering her house in Playa Hermosa, on the central Pacific coast. Her sister sustained a gunshot wound to the hand, but survived the attack.
According to the OIJ, a 45-year-old Belgian, with the last name of Gryson, orchestrated the murder. Officers learned that the suspect believed his ex-wife and the victim were involved in a relationship, and he allegedly ordered Erpen’s murder in a fit of jealousy.
Gryson received three months of preventative prison Thursday, while the prosecution builds a case against the suspect.
OIJ agents arrested the suspect on a public road in downtown Jacó. Agents raided Gryson’s apartment and mechanic shop, where they expect to find additional evidence.
