U.S. woman found dead in Jacó cabina

A woman from the United States was found dead in her Jacó hotel room Thursday, the Judicial Investigation Police (OIJ) reported.

The woman, a 28-year-old U.S. citizen with the last name Baran, checked into a cabina near the center of Jacó, on the central Pacific coast, around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to an OIJ report. She asked the staff to wake her up Thursday morning.

When hotel staff went to wake her she did not respond, the report said. Employees looked through a window and saw Baran dead. Baran suffered no wounds, but according to the OIJ statement, agents at the scene reported finding two syringes in Baran’s hands, one apparently filled with a brown substance.

Baran’s body was transported to the morgue for an autopsy.
