Costa Rican Town Gears Up for Its National Strawberry Fair

Vara Blanca will once again put strawberries at the center of local life as the Heredia mountain community prepares to host the 14th edition of the National Strawberry Fair from April 30 to May 3, 2026. The four-day event will bring together local growers, food vendors, artisans, cultural performances, and family activities in one of Costa Rica’s best-known strawberry-producing areas..

Opening Day & Hours

The festivities begin Thursday, April 30, at noon in front of the local Catholic church. An official opening ceremony is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on the main stage, with cultural performances planned throughout the evening.

From Friday, May 1, through Sunday, May 3, the fair will be open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., with activities for visitors of all ages.

What’s on the Agenda?

Visitors can expect a full lineup that includes:

  • Local strawberry growers showcasing the region’s harvest
  • Strawberry-based dishes and products
  • Artisan craft vendors
  • Modified 4×4 and overlanding vehicle exhibitions
  • Equestrian displays
  • Children’s entertainment and recreational activities
  • A free mobile photography workshop open to the public

Popular highlights include the making of a giant strawberry cake, along with contests for the biggest strawberry, the best strawberry dessert, and a strawberry eating competition.

On Friday, May 1, International Workers’ Day, a special program will honor those who support the community’s growth and agricultural economy.

Free Admission

Admission to the fair is free. Organizers said parking will be available and safety measures will be in place for visitors. The fair has become a local tradition and a platform for promoting rural economies while highlighting the region’s agricultural heritage. Thousands of visitors are expected during the four-day celebration.
