Hilton Plans to Strengthen Presence in Costa Rica with Six New Hotels

The international Hilton chain will expand its operations in Costa Rica with six hotels now under development. The company will also introduce three brands that will open in the country for the first time in the years ahead. Hilton seeks to grow its portfolio and supply more lodging choices for different kinds of travelers.

Pablo Maturana, vice president of development, architecture, design and construction for the Caribbean and Latin America at Hilton, said the strategy fits Costa Rica’s position as a tourism destination and the demand for more varied stays. “Today we have 20 hotels operating in Costa Rica across seven of our brands, and we are going to open six more,” he said.

The new brands entering the Costa Rican market are LXR Hotels & Resorts, Tapestry Collection by Hilton and Tru by Hilton. Each one serves a different segment of the hotel market. One standout project is the LXR Hotels & Resorts property in Manuel Antonio. Scheduled to open in mid-2028, the hotel will include 170 rooms and a residential component. The model follows the one used at the Waldorf Astoria Costa Rica Punta Cacique.

Developments of this kind deliver hotels that carry their own identity in the luxury and ultra-luxury segments. Maturana said the arrival of these brands will give travelers and investors more options. “This opens up opportunities for owners and investors because it broadens the range of alternatives for finding the right brand for the right hotel in the right location,” he said.

Costa Rica meets the conditions that make it attractive for Hilton’s growth plans. “Costa Rica is a well-established and highly sought-after destination globally. Its biodiversity is extraordinary, and within a relatively small territory there is a natural diversity that surpasses many destinations in the world,” Maturana said.

He added that visitors often move within the country for business or leisure. “In Costa Rica it is very common to see how people travel within the country, either for business or leisure. A visitor can leave San José and decide to go to another destination as part of their experience,” he explained.

The Montara Hotel, part of the Tapestry Collection by Hilton, will open at the end of this year. It will focus on lifestyle hospitality with a unique identity. The Heredia Stadium Hotel, also under the Tapestry Collection by Hilton, will open next year near the soccer stadium in Heredia.

Tru by Hilton in the San José airport area will open in the first half of 2029. Hilton surpassed 300 hotels in operation across the Caribbean and Latin America last year. The company holds more than 150 projects in various stages of design and construction in the region.
