Fuel prices could drop in August

Calculations by the National Oil Refinery (RECOPE) concluded that prices of gasoline could drop in August.

RECOPE said per-liter prices of super gasoline could drop ₡12, while plus gasoline could be reduced by ₡18.

Once a month the Public Services Regulatory Authority (ARESEP) uses a formula to set fuel prices, and RECOPE says July’s calculations could result in lower prices for next month.

However, the per-liter price of diesel could go up ₡27, according the same formula.

In a press release, RECOPE reported that “these estimates are preliminary,” and ARESEP is responsible for applying final calculations by considering international prices of oil during the 15 days prior to each monthly review.

RECOPE analysts believe that “no major changes are expected for the rest of the month,” so that possibilities of a price reduction are high.
